Description:
The Philadelphia Phillies replaced the main videoboard at Citizens Bank Park in the 2022-2023 off-season. The new state of the art videoboard is 76% larger in area than the existing videoboard, which makes it one of the largest videoboards in Major League Baseball. The new videoboard is supported from the original videoboard structure. The existing structural members, connections, and foundations were analyzed and reinforced as necessary for the additional wind and dead loads. Steel columns were extended higher to accommodate the new videoboard’s additional height, and a 12-foot long cantilever was hung off of the rightmost existing column to support the additional width of the larger board. The design team needed to work closely with the contractors considering the fast-paced construction required to complete the installation within the planned six-month long construction period. The construction timeline was ultimately shortened by six weeks due to the Phillies appearance in the 2022 World Series. Numerous challenges arose during construction which required quick input from the design team. Ultimately, the project completed on schedule and delivered an impressive videoboard which enhances the fan experience at Citizens Bank Park.
