About Engineer's Week

National Engineers Week was established in 1951 to help increase public understanding of the engineering profession. In the Delaware Valley, Engineers Week program have been held since 1953. The programs are sponsored by a collaboration of engineering societies, government agencies, universities, and major corporations representing thousands of engineers. Engineers Week is a strong venue to inform our citizens of the value of engineers, celebrate engineering technology and innovation, and cultivate interest in math, science and engineering among the nation's youth - tomorrow's work force.

Engineers Of The Year 2026

Sarah McInnes, PE  - 2026 Engineer Of The Year

Sarah currently serves as the Senior Assistant Construction Engineer – Construction
Services for PennDOT District 6. In this role, she oversees a large staff of 55 and a
multifaceted program that includes construction project delivery, structure control,
materials, consultant agreements, surface treatment, constructability and schedule review,
and project closeout.  As part of her current leadership role, she is directly responsible for
one of the largest staff at PennDOT District 6-0 and for hiring and mentoring staff and
engineers for the construction unit.  Previously, Sarah served as the District Geotechnical
Engineer for over 13 years, managing both in-house staff and consultant agreements to
deliver geotechnical engineering services across the district. She implemented new
geotechnical technologies and asset management strategies that improved project delivery
and reduced long-term maintenance costs. Sarah holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering
from Villanova University (2003) and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Syracuse
University (1996). Sarah’s exemplary work has earned her numerous accolades, including:
PennDOT Star of Excellence Award (1999), ASCE Philadelphia Section Geotechnical Engineer of the Year
(2020), and ASCE Philadelphia Section Civil Engineer of the Year (2025). Sarah began her career at PennDOT
in 1997 as a Staff Geotechnical Engineer and steadily advanced through roles of increasing responsibility.
She has supervised multidisciplinary teams, managed multimillion-dollar consultant contracts, and provided
critical field support during emergency and routine operations. Her work has directly impacted major
infrastructure projects, including addressing the on-going sinkhole activity under SR 0422,
SR 0202, and I-76, as well as reconstruction of Interstate 476 over unstable karst formations and the
widening of Interstate 95.

Faye Majekodunmi, PE -2026 Young Engineer of the Year

Faye

Muyinat Majekodunmi, better known to us as Faye, is a visionary engineering
leader whose career exemplifies technical mastery, innovation, and a deep
commitment to shaping the future of transportation.  With over a decade of
experience in rail electrification and structural engineering, she has delivered
transformative projects that modernize America’s rail infrastructure, ensuring
safe, sustainable, and efficient travel for millions of passengers.  Her work
reflects not only engineering excellence but also a passion for collaboration,
mentorship, and continuous learning.
Faye’s journey into engineering began with a natural curiosity for how things
work, a love for problem-solving, and what she calls her “gift of gab”, a strength
that would later become her hallmark for collaboration and leadership.  Growing
up in a family that valued education and resilience, she embraced challenges as
opportunities to learn and lead.  Her Nigerian heritage and Yoruba roots instilled in
her a strong sense of purpose and community, values that continue to guide her professional and
personal life.
In 2012, Faye earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Temple University, building
a strong foundation in structural design and earning her Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.  Her
academic excellence led her to pursue a Master of Science in Structural Engineering at the
University of Maryland while interning at Amtrak, where she integrated real project work into her
studies.
Faye’s career in transportation started as an entry-level engineer at Amtrak.  She advanced through
several positions at Amtrak and as a consultant before returning to Amtrak as its Director of
Catenary Engineering.  In this position she leads strategic efforts to modernize critical catenary
infrastructure and oversees a team for Northeast Corridor and Harrisburg Line projects.
Faye’s influence extends beyond technical domains, as she is a respected leader and mentor.  She
manages diverse engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and
continuous improvement.  Her leadership style is characterized by humility and authenticity, as she
leads by example, often rolling up her sleeves to support her team in solving complex problems.
Faye is also deeply committed to developing the next generation of engineers.  She has held the
positions of Director of Professional Development and Director of Student Outreach for the
Philadelphia Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS).  She is particularly proud of
TransportationYOU, an initiative that inspires high school girls to explore careers in transportation
engineering, broadening the talent pipeline and promoting STEM diversity.
Faye’s excellence has been recognized across the industry.  In 2024, she was honored as one of
Railway Track & Structures’ “10 Under 40 Women in Rail”, GVF’s “2024 Top TDM Professionals
Under 40”, WTS Philadelphia’s 2024 Member of the Year, and a 2022 RTS “10 Under 40
Professionals in Rail” honorable mention.
